In many ways, organizational alignment starts at the top with leadership  The foundation of a leadership alignment process begins with identifying those leadership gaps that are most critical to an organization's success.   Common gaps include areas like systemic thinking, strategic perspective, balancing the short- and long-term and cross-functional awareness.

Once alignment areas have been identified for a given organization, top leaders (e.g., at the c level) are assessed using input provided through short, customized, online survey tools.  Input is generally solicited from a limited group of key stakeholders at the participant's level, above them and/or below them.  The tool is administered on a periodic basis (e.g., quarterly or semi-annually) as a means to assess gaps and progress.   Results are compared across different administrations to assure leaders know where they stand and what, if any, gaps exist. 

The process assures that leaders are consistently mindful of the key alignment areas, know where they stand at any given point in time and adjust their behavior accordingly.  Ultimately, the process is designed to instill a shared set of values, goals and core leadership behaviors.
